As a PEPPOL-certified Access Point, Open ECX can help simplify and standardise digital trade for businesses operating across borders.

PEPPOL (Pan-European Public Procurement Online) is a global framework that enables organisations to securely exchange electronic invoices, purchase orders and other business documents using common standards. By becoming PEPPOL-certified, Open ECX enables its customers to connect once and transact with any trading partner on the network worldwide, removing the need for bespoke integrations and reducing complexity across supply chains.

Through its PEPPOL Access Point, Open ECX helps organisations exchange documents in standardised formats, improving data quality, reducing errors and supporting compliance with rapidly evolving invoicing regulations. This is becoming increasingly critical as governments move towards near real-time reporting and mandatory electronic invoicing.

Open ECX is already supporting customers with country-specific requirements, including Belgium’s mandate for all domestic B2Band B2G invoices to be exchanged electronically from 2026. By enabling compliant cross-border transactions today, the platform ensures businesses are well prepared for future regulatory change without disruption.

Originally established in 2008 by the European Commission, PEPPOL has grown into a widely adopted international standard used across Europe, Asia and Australasia, and is now central to many national e-invoicing strategies.

“PEPPOL provides a trusted, global framework for exchanging business documents at scale,” said Nathan Ollier, CEO at Open ECX. “We already help organisations automate document exchange, streamline reporting and share data securely with trading partners and authorities. Becoming PEPPOL-certified is a natural extension of that work.”

With its accreditation, Open ECX is also a certified PEPPOL Service Metadata Publisher (SMP), enabling customers to publish and discover the technical details required to exchange documents securely across the network. This provides a complete, end-to-end solution for compliant invoicing and document exchange.

As the UK government moves towards mandatory e-invoicing, expected by 2029, organisations that prepare now will be best placed to remain compliant and competitive. PEPPOL readiness reduces manual intervention, accelerates invoicing and payment cycles, and allows businesses to focus on growth rather than administrative burden.
